COLLAPSE - Cook glacier-Ocean system, sea LeveL and Antarctic Past Stability
We present here the Multichannel Seismic metadata collected in 2022 by the PNRA19_00022 COLLAPS project "Cook glacier-Ocean system, sea LeveL and Antarctic Past Stability" Principal Investigator: L. De Santis OGS ldesantis@ogs.it ldesantis@ogs.it We present here the Multichannel Seismic metadata collected in 2022 by the PNRA19_00022 COLLAPS project "Cook glacier-Ocean system, sea LeveL and Antarctic Past Stability" Principal Investigator: L. De Santis OGS ldesantis@ogs.it
The data set consist of ca. 300 km of multichannel seismic profiles collected with the R/V L. Bassi employing 2 x 210 cu.in. GI Gun and a 1500 m long digital streamer, 120 channels, intertrace of 12.5 m, shot interval 37.5 m (=circa 18.75 sec, ship speed 4 knots), record length 8 seconds.
The data set was processed at OGS. The seismic trackline (and the segy stacked data) can be downloaded from the Antarctic Seismic Data Library System. The stacked seismic data are available after 4 years from the campaign.

The goal of the COLLAPS project is to collect geophysical and sediment core data in the area facing the Cook, Ninnis and Mertz glaciers, to reconstruct the modalities of their advance, and retreat during the glacial and interglacial cycles. The results will serve to simulate more precisely the stability of these glaciers, which drain a significant part of the Antarctic ice sheet, to the Ocean temperature rise. Currently this glaciers are still relatively stable, but the TALDICE ice core and the IODP Exp 318 marine sediments recorded evidence of major ice sheet retreat in this region, during the Pliocene and Pleistocene interglacials. The COLLAPS multichannel seismic data grid is aimed in particular to map a sedimentary mound formed at the mouth of the Cook Depression in the continental slope and rise.

The data were processed with the Shlumberger “VISTA 2019” software.
After importing the SEGD files, a static delay of 50 ms was applied to compensate for the delay generated by the gun controller. Given the high depth of the water head in the survey area, the seabed is located at approximately 4.2 seconds. To lighten the data and speed up the processing sequence, the first 4 seconds of the traces were eliminated on all lines.
The next step was the geometrization of the lines. The coordinates downloaded from the navigation software have been assigned to each "Shot point". By setting the acquisition geometry (offset, firing interval, number of channels and spacing) the software is able to calculate the coordinates of each individual Common Mid Point (CMP).
After performing the speed analyzes every 100 CMP, the speed functions were used for the Normal Move Out (NMO) correction and to obtain the "Brute stacks" so as to have control over the general quality of the acquired data.
Once the good quality of the data was verified, a gain was applied to compensate for the attenuation caused by the spherical divergence, and a "band pass" filter.
Using the same velocity functions used for the NMO correction, the “migrated” sections were produced.
The final SEGYs were exported for both the Migrated and NON-Migrated sections
